two weeks in 1998 on a Sailing and Navigation Training Expedition
on the Mahina Tiare, a 46 foot Halberg Rassy (John Neal). 1100
miles open ocean from Raratonga, Cook Islands to Pago Pago, American
Samoa. Received training in: Coastwise piloting, Plotting
and Navigation, Celestial Navigation, Safety at Sea, Passage and
Weather Planning, Making landfall, Reefing & Sail Handling, Priority
& Safety Equipment, Anchoring and docking techniques, Use of navigational
equipment including radar & GPS, Sail and rigging maintenance. During
the trip, we had heavy weather sailing experience in Force 8 gale.
