Messing with Boats, Part I

In addition to the goals we set, part of our plan is “just messing around with boats.” Along this line of thinking, I was given a plaque by a dear friend that says:

Believe me, my young friend (said the water rate solemnly), there is nothing—
absolutely nothing—half so much worth as simply messing about in boats.
Simply messing…nothing seems really to matter, that’s the charm of it.
Whether you get away, or whether you don’t,
whether you arrive at your destination or whether you reach somewhere else,
or whether you never get anywhere at all,
you’re always busy, and you never do anything in particular…
